Montgomery Grove Debuts with a Bang - and Comeback Sauce!

Published Fri, Mar 17, 2023

Traveling west on Highway 105 over the past year, just beyond Montgomery High School, you might have spotted the burgeoning hotspot featuring the pizza food truck, Dizzy Pies. Rave online reviews abound, and if you've had the pleasure of tasting their creations, you'll understand why.

Boasting a fantastic outdoor area, complete with turf and lighting for Cornhole leagues and yard games, Dizzy Pies offered a menu that was both innovative and classic, satisfying adventurous and traditional pizza lovers alike.

Perfect for sharing between two, we enjoyed rotating between a few of their pizzas:

  • Look Up Here: Dizzy red sauce, pepperoni, cheese, pancetta, capicola, diced jalapenos, roasted red pepper, topped with fresh basil.
    • Pairing suggestion: pairs well with an amber ale or pale lager
  • Southbound: Mexican crema, beef fajita, grilled onion, cheese, a splash of lime juice, garnished with fresh cilantro.
    • Pairing suggestion: complements a crisp pilsner or Mexican lager)
  • You’re My Boy Blue: Blue cheese crema base, grilled buffalo chicken, mozzarella, pickled red onion, blue cheese crumbles, topped with fresh-sliced celery and a drizzle of buffalo sauce.
    • Pairing suggestion: enhanced with a hoppy IPA or refreshing wheat beer

It was evident that something was being built in one of the existing buildings on the property, and if it wasn't too busy, you might have been able to strike up a conversation with the owner, Mike Anderson, for long enough to hear about the award-winning burger truck he was planning on reviving in the next-door building, or even lucky enough to get a tour of the construction progress.

The much anticipated Montgomery Grove brick-and-mortar opened its doors March 15, 2023, and we were eager to give it a try. Living up to the inventive spirit of the Dizzy Pies menu, their burgers range from classic to unique, with loaded fries and sides to boot – something to please any palate that would venture into a burger joint.

Our order included the Phatty Melt, the El Vato Loco, a side of Wowzer Fries, and a side of the Mac 'n Cheese.

  • The Phatty Melt featured a juicy, perfectly cooked signature burger with the smoky and slightly spicy chipotle sauce adding a pleasant kick. The grilled onions brought a touch of sweetness while the Texas toast provided a crispy, buttery contrast to the beefy burger and toppings.
  • The El Vato Loco was a harmonious mix of savory and tangy flavors. The crispy bacon and muenster cheese added richness, while the grilled onions lent a subtle sweetness. The comeback sauce, with its creamy and zesty notes, tied it all together.
  • The Wowzer Fries were an explosion of bold flavors and textures, rivaling one of Adrienne’s childhood favorites from XYZ, for which she makes the rare exception to eat bacon. The quesorizo's spiciness and the bacon's rich saltiness were perfectly balanced by the cool, creamy jalapeno ranch and tangy comeback sauce. The green onions offered a fresh crunch.
  • The Mac 'n Cheese was a comforting and indulgent side dish, featuring plump noodles coated in plenty of their creamy, cheesy sauce.

Since its debut, Montgomery Grove's gravel parking lot has been consistently filled, with a steady flow of patrons streaming through its doors.

We plan to curate a pairing menu for Montgomery Grove and catch up with Mike for an update on the bustling business and customer feedback. As delighted as we are with the burgers and the addition of air conditioning to combat the approaching Texas-summer heat, we're all curious to find out if and when Dizzy Pies will make its return. So, stay tuned for more exciting news from Montgomery Grove!
